Montreal Canadiens reject a trade involving Carey Price: Bad news for the Chicago Blackhawks

The Montreal Canadiens have been rumored to be on the verge of shedding goaltender Carey Price's contract for weeks now, and the Chicago Blackhawks are reportedly one of three teams who are deemed to be acquiring it.

There was even recently a trade proposal that would result in the Blackhawks acquiring Price's contract along with a 2nd round pick in the NHL Entry Draft, while sending goaltender Laurent Brossoit, who has yet to play a single game in Chicago because of injuries, back to Montreal in return.

But per a new report from TVA Sports journalist Renaud Lavoie, the Canadiens would not trade a high draft selection along with Price's deal to any team.

It looks like if the Blackhawks want to acquire another top pick, they'll have to do so in a different way.

Brossoit, who was signed to a 2-year contract last summer after completing his 2nd tour of duty with the Winnipeg Jets, hasn't played a single game for the club yet.

Injuries have kept him from the lineup, and there's no guarantee that he'd be available for the start of training camp later this month or the start of the new season in October.
