WGN's Charlie Roumeliotis reported today that Chicago Blackhawks reporter and golf reporter Rory Spears has passed away tragically at the age of 65.

Rory Spears wasn't just a reporter who covered golf in the Chicago, Illinois area, but he covered Blackhawks games as well.
This season was his 40th covering the Blackhawks, a huge honor for us all as we've gotten to know him as a personality and fan of the team.
He covered the Blackhawks for the website, Sportsticker, and called games on the radio.
He saw many of the bad Blackhawks teams but also the dynastic era of Kane and Toews.
But in regard to his tragic passing, we know very little at the moment, as he was found dead in his condo by local authorities, according to Awful Announcing.
The authorities reported his time of death on Wednesday, the cause unknown.
«Rory was an avid lover of all things sports from a young age, and turned that passion into a lifelong career as a sports reporter/journalist,» the obituary reads. «He was particularly passionate about golf, and was proud of the fact that he was able to play virtually every major golf course in America, including recording his only career hole-in-one on Pinehurst No. 6 in North Carolina. Rory recently became an eight-time International Network of Golf (ING) national award winner for his golf reporting. He was also happy that he was able to cover a championship for every major Chicago sports team over the course of his career.»

Unfortunately for his colleagues like the WGN's Charlie Roumelioitis, who knew him personally saw the challenges he went through with his health, and is mourning the reporter's loss.
In addition to covering the Blackhawks on Sportsticket, he could be heard on WDNZ's "Golfers on Golf", and his radio career included stints at WSR and NBC Sports.
The last piece of news we saw him post was on March 24th on the GOG blog.
We send our deepest condolences to Rory Spears family, friend and colleagues here at Hawks Insider.
