Former Chicago Blackhawks forward reaches elite status with latest play
Former Chicago Blackhawks forward Dylan Strome has reached elite status with his latest play for the Capitals, leaving many to wonder if he's the one who got away.
The Chicago Blackhawks had 4 years of
Dylan Strome in their lineup, and they weren't able to make the most of it.
But
since he joined the Washington Capitals, his career has taken off, which included a new career-best 82 points (29G, 53A) last year as he helped the Capitals to the top spot in the Metropolitan Division.
So far he already has 9 points (2G, 7A) in 7 games this year, and is currently on a 4 game heater in points.
Did the Blackhawks let one get away when they chose not to extend a qualifying offer to Strome in 2022?
Did the Blackhawks make a mistake by not extending Dylan Strome?
So far with the Capitals, Strome has proven himself to not only be an important player for them, but one of their key pieces in getting back into title contention.
The Blackhawks, on the other hand, have been at or near the bottom of the Western Conference standings in each of the last several years.
Even though it's gotten them several top draft picks, including
Connor Bedard and
Anton Frondell, the Blackahwks haven't gotten back to the playoffs since 2020.
Strome was taken with the 3rd overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Arizona Coyotes, and started his career with them.
In November of 2018, he was traded to the Blackhawks for Brendan Perlini and
Nick Schmaltz; Schmaltz remains with the organization, who are now the Utah Mammoth.
He has 393 points (148G, 245A) in 525 career games.
