NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman is reacting to the back-to-back ejections that 19-year-old Chicago Blackhawks star Connor Bedard was recently hit with.
While it's been another extremely difficult year for the rebuilding Chicago Blackhawks, 19-year-old forward Connor Bedard has particularly been struggling of late.
He was even ejected from Chicago's recent games against the San Jose Sharks and the Vancouver Canucks, a pair of misconducts in 24 hours.
His frustration was particularly evident when he was tossed from Chicago's March 15 loss to the Canucks with several friends and family members in attendance at Rogers Arena; he threw his helmet as he made his way down the tunnel toward the dressing room.
During Monday's episode of his "32 Thoughts" podcast, NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman touched on the 'weird' circumstances surrounding the back to back ejections that Bedard was hit with.
Twice this year, Bedard goes to Vancouver and has tough nights. He's been given game or 10-minute misconduct and kicked out of the game
Bedard threw his helmet, and then he went back and apologized to the person he threw it at. He's frustrated, like anything.
It's weird to see him get back-to-back 10-minute misconducts, (but) I understand his frustration.
As Friedman then said, the officials in San Jose warned Bedard to stop talking to them before he was thrown out.
I heard that in the San Jose game, the officials told Bedard to stop talking, and he said some more stuff, and they just had it. That's what it was.
I don't think it was too crazy, but he's the ref, so he gets to make that call. You don't really expect that, but it happens.
In his 2nd year in the NHL since being taken 1st overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, Bedard has 53 points (18G, 35A).
