Discussing who the next Chicago Blackhawks captain will be
On September 18th of last year, the Blackhawks named Nick Foligno as their 36th captain.
Foligno has been a great captain. He fights when he has to, he's teaching the young guys the way, he's an all-round good guy.
But, he's 37 years old. Foligno's up in age and his contract ends next year. By then he'll be 38 and might retire.
So, that opens up the spot for next in line. Who's going to fill it?
Bedard is a generational talent even though he's been going through a little bit of a slump lately.
Connor still has 17 goals and 35 assists so far this season, combining to 52 points in 66 games. The boys seem to like Bedard as well and he is the future face of the franchise while having the makings to be a good leader. It seems like a no-brainer decision for Kyle Davidson and company to make.
Bedard was your #1 draft pick in one of the worst years the franchise has ever seen and you already put so much stock into him. Push Bedard to the moon.
If he doesn't get the «C» on his sweater, there'll be an «A» on there, for sure.
Alex Vlasic is the future of the defensive core, along with
Artyom Levshunov. Vlasic is loved in the locker room and is a big presence on the ice. Plus, he's just a good player.
He took a discount on his contract and signed for the next six years at a cap hit of just above $4 million per year. Alex wants to be here.
Frank Nazar is another guy who just has it all. He's a high-motor player who can get scrappy in the corners. He has this vibe that reflects on everyone that's on his line and will end up being a stud in the top six.
Either way, all three of them should end up with a letter on their jersey in the future.
