The Blackhawks fired Luke Richardson after another slow start to the year and replaced him with Anders Sorenson - could he be their new permanent HC?
Following another slow start to the year, the Chicago Blackhawks made a major change in leadership behind the bench.
They fired coach Luke Richardson, a move that surprised many, even though the Blackhawks weren't expected to realistically contend. They replaced him with Anders Sorenson, who was the head coach of the AHL's Rockford Ice Hogs.
Sorenson went 17-30-9 with the Blackhawks on an interim basis, and
now the work begins for Davidson in determining whether Sorenson has earned the right to have the interim label removed from his name or if a more established coach should be hired.
Right now, it looks as though Sorenson is the only candidate that the Blackhawks are in talks with.
Kyle Davidson revealed that the Blackhawks have yet to interview anyone for head coach, but have been in 'talks' with Anders Sorensen.
The GM revealed Sorensen is a candidate to become the next head coach. And the only candidate they've discussed a head coaching job with atm.
Several candidates with previous NHL coaching experience will be looking for new jobs for next year, including Drew Bannister (fired by the St. Louis Blues), Derek Lalonde (fired by the Detroit Red Wings), John Tortorella (fired by the Philadelphia Flyers), and Greg Cronin (fired today by the Anaheim Ducks).
If the Blackhawks decide to hire Sorenson on a full-time basis, will it be the right decision?
Or should they consider a more experienced head coach to help lead the rebuilding Blackhawks?
