Chicago Blackhawks prospect wins NCHC Rookie of the Year Award
The Chicago Blackhawks have officially been eliminated from playoff contention, but the future's still bright. Sacha Boisvert, Blackhawks prospect and freshman from North Dakota, has won the NCHC Rookie of the Year.
Boisvert was drafted 18th overall in last year's draft with the pick acquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning. Coming into his draft year, he had 68 goals in 61 games with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL. He did not disappoint.
Boisvert this season with North Dakota had 18 goals and 14 assists, tallying up to 32 points in 37 games this season and was almost a Hobey Baker Award finalist.
At only 19, his potential is through the roof, and he could very easily be the second line center or wing.
Last night in the Frozen Four Semifinals, unfortunately, North Dakota lost to Western Michigan 4-2. However, Boisvert scored two goals and even netted one late with just over 50 seconds to go to get ND back within one.
Boisvert showed that he can score in big moments and just big games in general, which is huge for when the Hawks are competing again.
Soon, all the young guns will knock all the veterans out of the lineup. They already are, but once these guys come up, it will officially signify a new era of Blackhawks hockey.
Sacha has a chance to be a big piece of it, as he can sit behind Bedard and possibly be on a line with Nick Lardis, expect a lot of goals to come off that line.
Boisvert is just one of the big pieces to the future.
