Chicago Blackhawks head coach flames NHL officiating for severe mistreatment of Connor Bedard
NHL officiating showed the favoritism Bruins on Thursday, when Fabian Lysell grabbed Connor Bedard while he was trying to pursue the puck, yet no hooking call was given, and it seems as if this is a constant occurrence.
The Chicago Blackhawks were robbed of a power play tonight thanks to the incompetence of on-ice officials, and this is an ongoing issue.
Head coach Anders Sorensen commented on the one of many missed calls as of late.
"There's some frustration there at times. He's a young kid, he's learning, he knows. But I think he should've gotten a call against - we were barking a little bit at the ref there. You like that, right? Because he had a scoring chance, got hooked and didn't get the call."
The hooking call should've been called with 7:32 left in the third period as a Bruins forward would grab Bedard, preventing him from recovering the puck, and of course, the officials treated the Blackhawks superstar as they do: no call on the play.
It seems like referees have two sets of rules: one for
Connor Bedard and one for everyone else, and it's getting old.
Blackhawks reporter Mark Lazerus also made a good point, stating that referees should have to face the media after games, following Bedard's 10-minute misconduct dealt to him in March.
Tonight's a good example of why referees should be made available to reporters. We should be able to get Chris Rooney's explanation for why Bedard got the 10-minute misconduct. But this being the NHL, we never will.
Despite Bedard not being fully matured at the age of 19, if league officials expect respect, it has to go both ways.
