Chicago Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson trades the 3rd overall draft pick: A major development with the Penguins
A trade between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Pittsburgh Penguins involving the third overall pick could be in the works a few hours ahead of the NHL Draft.
According to multiple league sources, the Penguins are a team to watch closely as we get closer to the start of the NHL Draft.
There had already been rumors surrounding Pittsburgh's interest in moving up from the 11th overall pick, but it reached a whole new level after the Rangers confirmed their decision to give them the 12th overall pick in the
J.T. Miller trade.
With 11 picks in this year's draft, including two in the first round, Kyle Dubas is in a position to make massive moves to bolster his team.
In a new report, The Athletic's Scott Wheeler confirmed that the Penguins could be looking to move up in the rankings, possibly completing a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks' third overall pick to get a top player in the draft, such as Porter Martone, James Hagens, or Roger McQueen
"I was already hearing a lot about the Penguins before the Rangers made the decision to transfer the No. 12 pick to them to complete the J.T. Miller trade. As I've reported, I know they'd inquired with the Blackhawks about the No. 3 pick and have been aggressive in looking into moving up. It sounds like they like both Porter Martone and James Hagens a lot. I've also heard they like Roger McQueen."
A package with the 11th and 12th pick, alongside a player or another pick, could push a team in the top five to accept a trade. If they're targeting another pick in the first 10 positions, the cost could be even lesser.
