The Chicago Blackhawks head coach Jeff Blashill provided an update on defenseman Alex Vlasic after he was cut by a skate blade in the game against the Minnesota Wild.
The Chicago Blackhawks organization was in Minnesota last Sunday to face the Wild,
and while they won 4-1, they lost something much more important than the game.
Today, Blackhawks head coach Jeff Blashill shared an official update on the young player's injury, a few hours ahead of the team's fourth preseason game against the Detroit Red Wings.

Scott Powers confirmed on X that Vlasic is day-to-day, will likely miss the rest of the preseason, but should be ready to come back to the lineup for the first game of the regular season, on October 7, against the Stanley Cup champions Florida Panthers.
Charlie Roumeliotis confirmed that it could've been much worse if he hadn't been wearing cut-resistant socks, and that the organization will talk to players about wearing more protective equipment on the ice-the only good thing that can come out of such injuries.
"Chicago head coach Jeff Blashill confirmed that Alex Vlasic got cut by a skate here, but fortunately he was wearing cut-resistant socks, so the wound isn't serious.
The staff will speak to players about perhaps going to a more thickened version of cut-resistant socks."
Vlasic, 24, scored 49 points in 179 total games in the NHL. The Hawks' second-round pick in 2019 signed a six-year extension in 2024 valued at $4,600,000 AAV.
He is expected to take a much more important role with the Hawks with the small veteran presence at the blue line in Chicago.
