Carey Price to the Chicago Blackhawks picks up steam following a reported trade call with the Canadiens
The Blackhawks are rumored to be in the running to acquire the contract of Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price in return for injured goaltender Laurent Brossoit, and a trade call made moments ago has just intensified the reports.
Both
Spencer Knight and
Arvid Soderblom appear set to be the duo in goal for the Chicago Blackhawks this year, but they have been rumored to be picking up the contract of a former elite goaltender with the Montreal Canadiens.
The proposed trade would also include multiple draft picks.
Canadiens acquire:
Laurent Brossoit
Lukas Reichel
Chicago's 2026 second-round pick
Toronto's 2026 second-round pick
Vancouver's 2027 second-round pick
Blackhawks acquire:
Carey Price's contract ($10.5M cap hit)
Montreal's 2026 first-round pick
Montreal's 2027 first-round pick
Additionally, the Blackhawks are said to be making calls with the Canadiens involving a trade.
Carey Price hasn't played since 2022
Because of a lingering knee injury, Carey Price has missed all but only a few games since 2022. He helped bring the Canadiens to the 2021 Stanley Cup Final in stunning fashion, but has been largely absence from the team since then.
He's not officially retired, as he's still on the books for the Canadiens with an AAV (average annual value) of $10.5 million.
Price wouldn't play for the Blackhawks, as he's all but officially retired.
