Buffalo Sabres on the verge of acquiring $22M Chicago Blackhawks forward
The Buffalo Sabres could soon be on the fast track to acquiring forward Tyler Bertuzzi from the Chicago Blackhawks, per Michael Auguello of The Hockey News.
The Buffalo Sabres currently own the NHL's longest period of time without a single playoff experience, as they last made the postseason in 2011 against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Since then, the Sabres have gone through multiple failed rebuild attempts, seriously testing fan patience in Western New York. They need players who are ready to go now, not more wait-and-see projects.
Per analyst Michael Augello of The Hockey News, Sabres GM Kevyn Adams
could be intrigued by Tyler Bertuzzi, who is coming off his 1st year with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Adams would definitely be attracted by a veteran with years remaining on his deal, especially with the cap going up significantly and Bertuzzi locked in at a $5.5 million AAV. The Hawks are loaded with draft capital, so it is likely that they would prefer a player with some NHL experience or a prospect close to being ready to make the jump.
Betuzzi would give the Sabres a gritty forward with plenty of NHL experience who not only plays physically but is an offensive contributor. The Blackhawks would also be able to fetch a prospect or two in return.
Tyler Bertuzzi was signed to a 4-year deal last summer with the Blackhawks
Bertuzzi joined his 4th Original 6 team last summer, signing with the Blackhawks for 5 years to play alongside former 1st round pick
Connor Bedard.
Bertuzzi had previously played for the Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs.
In his 1st year with the Blackhawks, he had 46 points (23G, 23A) while playing in all 82 games. He has 3 years left on his deal with an AAV (average annual value) of $5.5 million.
