Trade officially completed between the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings today in history
The Chicago Blackhawks completed a historic transaction on this day, as they acquired Lou Jankowski, Larry Wilson, and Larry Zeidel from the Detroit Red Wings.
72 years ago, the Blackhawks completed a transaction that would transform their lineup into something meaner.
The team sent cash to the Detroit Red Wings, and in return, they would receive
Larry "The Rock" Zeidel, Lou Jankowski, and Larry Wilson.
Lou Jankowski would find himself at home in the Chicago Blackhawks lineup, offering a scoring touch, adding 28 points (15-13) in 68 games with the Original Six team.
While Larry "The Rock" Zeidel would offer nothing more than he was capable of. He'd score 7 points (1-6) in 64 games and would "earn" 102 PIMs, as a bruiser.
Larry Wilson's Wizardry in Chicago
Larry Wilson would win a Stanley Cup in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings during the 1949-50 season. But would only remain in a Red Wings uniform until the 1953-54 season, where he'd be sent to the Blackhawks to play a total of two seasons with the Hawks crest on his chest.
He'd play 129 games and score 65 points as one of the only players in the trade who had significant offensive capabilities compared to his teammates.
Wilson has a lineage that continued in the NHL, as his son, Ron Wilson, coached in the NHL, and his brother, Johnny, both played and coached.
For the Blackhawks, ultimately, the best player they got out of the deal was Larry Wilson; Zeidel (the enforcer), and Lou Jankowski were depth additions.
