Trade underway between the Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins appears imminent

If there hasn't been much action on the trade market this offseason compared to what we've seen in recent years, it doesn't mean we won't see more deals being made before the start of the 2025-26 NHL season.

Many things are almost written on the wall.

The Blackhawks need players, have assets, and want to get older, while the Penguins need assets, have players, and want to get younger.

It wasn't surprising to see Kyle Davidson being quiet this summer, but the goal of adding a forward able to play alongside Connor Bedard remains, as does the need to fix holes in the defensive unit.

While some fans hoped to see Davidson be active in free agency, the organization decided to wait, like most teams did.

But with sources confirming the Pittsburgh Penguins made some interesting players available, Davidson could be tempted to complete a trade.

The Penguins are looking for young players who can come into the lineup right away. To do so, they could be willing to part ways with a few veterans, including Rickard Rakell, a player of great interest to Davidson.

But in order to get him, the Hawks will need to pay a hefty price, which could be Lukas Reichel, the 17th overall pick in 2020, who's been involved in a lot of rumors over the offseason.

The 23-year-old forward scored eight goals and 14 assists in 70 games last season. Over his NHL career, he tallied 54 points, including 20 goals.

Reichel could thrive in a fresh start with the Penguins, and both teams know it. But considering the teams' mutual interests, a Reichel-Rakell trade could even happen before the season.
