An announcement involving two Original Six rivals, including the Chicago Blackhawks, has been made official just now.
The NHL Draft and the opening of the free agent market - both set to go down in the coming week - will officially kickstart the 2025 offseason, and fans will be eager to see what their favorite teams will do to get better ahead of the 2025-26 season.
The Detroit Red Wings have officially confirmed a last-minute announcement, which involves the Chicago Blackhawks as well.
Indeed, the team released its 2025-26 NHL preseason schedule last Tuesday, including games against Original Six rivals like the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Wings are also set to clash with the Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Toronto Maple Leafs. It's a schedule that mirrors past years but still brings plenty of intrigue, especially with the return of a familiar face behind the opposing bench.
The game between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings will also notably feature Jeff Blashill's first clash against his former team.
Blashill served as head coach of the Red Wings from 2015 to 2022 and was recently named the 42nd head coach in Blackhawks history.
