NHL analyst John Shannon has leaked the current lead city for expansion, and it's drawing criticism from around fan circles.

The NHL has not been shy about expanding in recent years, placing new teams in Las Vegas and Seattle, both of which have proven to be successful in their local communities.
There is further speculation about additional expansion, with cities like Atlanta and Houston being named potentials.
Per NHL analyst John Shannon, the NHL could even return once again to Phoenix after the failure that was the Coyotes.
I think in the next five years we're gonna be at 34 teams; I suspect we're gonna see Atlanta come in let's say 2028, and then Houston or Phoenix, if Phoenix gets a new arena, in 2030.
This was not sitting well with fans, many of whom said they feel the NHL already has too many teams.
Oh good grief that's just what we needmore teams, more players from other countries because there's not enough home grown talent to fill all the positions of all the teams. Whose brilliant idea is this. I know, I know. Gary Bettman. When is this ego maniac going to step down.

Stop it's enough

How about in the next 5 years we dont see any of those teams and instead market the league better

So rather than market the league better their solution is to water down the talent even more?

At 32 teams, the NHL is has more teams than its ever had.

Gary Bettman didn't sound like he was in a rush for further expansion

Naturally, the question was recently posed to NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, who didn't sound like he was in a hurry to add more teams.
However, Bettman did recently announce that any potential new team would have to pay a $2 billion expansion fee.
