In a surprise to no one, Gary Bettman and the NHL have outlined the new rules in the CBA when it comes to sponsorships, CBD Oil companies are disallowed, while Gambling remains OK!

The NHL and NHLPA recently agreed on a new CBA, which will ensure labor peace for four more years once it takes effect.
Many are singing its praises, as it gives us an 84-game season, all the while, they have made interesting adjustments.
Players, when signing new sponsorship deals, can't work with CBD companies, as Cannabis is still an illicit substance.
But, in terms of a vice with a real addiction, that remains without question: Gambling. Which means they must be shelling out monster deals for teams lately.
But god forbid, any NHL player use an alternate method to manage their pain or anxiety with CBD oil. That? It's a big no-no.
Though it's been proven that gambling has been more harmful to those who engage in it. The rates are astronomical for those who fail to manage their habits, and the stats are astounding!
Research from the NCPG also indicates that:

Two million American adults in the U.S. meet severe gambling criteria.
Four to six million American adults meet mild or moderate gambling criteria.

While there is language in there that can change the outlook of the NHL positively, including a carve-out for players who can be assigned to the AHL from the CHL, a thing that the Blackhawks could've used in the past with Kevin Korchinski.
But the cons arguably outweigh the pros here.
The dinosaur thinking regarding alternative treatment products limits a player's ability to make money based on a substance which has typically been proven as harmless.
