Evander Kane is the newest Vancouver Canuck, and today, during an interview with The Province, he dropped a harsh truth about the Edmonton Oilers' elimination from the Finals, and foregoing a hockey tradition of the handshake line.

Forward Evander Kane is no stranger to controversy in the NHL. In his newest interview with "The Province", Kane would go no-holds-barred on critics who bashed him for not taking part in the handshake line after the Edmonton Oilers' elimination from the Stanley Cup finals.
During Game 6, Kane would swing his stick at Florida Panthers player Matthew Tkachuk, in what would be considered an attempt to injure him. The referees gave Kane a game misconduct, which would result in him heading to the locker room, never to return to the ice.
Which makes sense, right?
He wouldn't join the handshake line and would hear about the lack of professionalism regarding his eschewing of the norms.
«I mean, I've been kicked out of games in the past. Other players have been kicked out of games of the past. I've never seen anybody come out and shake hands if they were kicked out of the game in an elimination game of the postseason. So, I didn't. Then I saw some criticism around it for me, I felt like they were just looking for something to talk about.
What Kane has stated, maybe the case. Journalists are looking for clicks, and Kane is a perfect target given his sordid history on and off the ice.
The lack of discipline on Kane's part is troubling, but that should be the least of their worries. When it comes to criticism of the Oilers, maybe it should be about how the team was built.
He wouldn't back down and would accuse some pundits as people who've never experienced fierce competition in their lives. Which could ring true for a lot of journalists and writers who have never laced up for a game.
The power forward wouldn't stop there, as he believes that the NHL media is taking it out on him for dishonest reasons. Blaming the media for haranguing him due to the fact that he looks different.
They call it, 'Losing his mind. Losing control.' It's whatever they want, whatever terms they want to use - character flaw, whatever it may be. They throw these terms out very loosely. The same actions, they could have two different adjectives to describe two different players.»

He added: «When a player looks a little different, they don't know how to handle it. They feel uncomfortable.»

Given how much trouble he has had off the ice, including gambling debts, a 21-game suspension for neglecting safety protocols, and a contract termination with the San Jose Sharks.
It's helped the media refer back to these in a way to continue to paint an ugly picture of Kane.
It could be accurate that he has been unfairly targeted by NHL media, whereas some people believe he's deflecting, as he's been the culprit of these issues alone.
Kane will have to put in some work in order to regain some people's trust, including Canucks fans, who might love the power-forward for his passionate play, but dislike his off-ice controversies, which are aplenty.
