A tragic scene happened as a 64-year-old hockey player passed away on March 26th, as a result of being hit in the chest with a puck.
The rink itself is a testament to the growing sport of hockey as it offers multiple programs to grow the game with AAA and AAU hockey teams to play for.
Tragically, Louis Foster, a 64-year-old goalie, would be hit in the chest by a puck and would exit the game.
JSO and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue would show up to respond to the call after reports of Foster not feeling well would lead to him collapsing near the stands according to reports.
CPR would be administered with the help of bystanders.
An unfortunate series of events for the Foster family, who were in attendance for the game at the First Igloo Rink.
«The victim was unconscious and still wearing his hockey uniform,» the report states. Foster was rushed to nearby Baptist Medical where he was pronounced dead.
The Foster family would report no pre-existing medical conditions for Louis.
The game of hockey is a sport that is defined by struggle on the ice every night, as we see our favorite competitors put all of their effort into every game for our enjoyment.
The kind of effort we see from recreational players who never make the show as well, and Foster undoubtedly played the game with the kind of passion and love we all get from the world's greatest sport.
It's just sad that the sport he loved also took his life as a result of one incident, reminding us how precious life is.
We send our deepest condolences to Louis Foster's family, friends, colleagues, and teammates.
