The Hockey world is in mourning after reports confirmed the death of 34-year-old KHL forward Fedor Malykhin.
The
hockey community has lost a significant amount of family members this season, and Malykhin unfortunately was the next to tragically lose his life.
The 34-year-old KHL forward was known as a quality individual on and off the ice by his teammates, friends, and family.
Malykhin played his entire 13-year career in the KHL with clubs like Traktor Chelyabinsk, Spartak Moscow, Ak Bars Kazan, Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg, Vityaz Podolsk, and Avangard Omsk.
He'd score the ultimate prize in the KHL and won the Gagarin Cup in 2018 with Ak Bars Kazan.
Five years after achieving his goal as a player in the KHL, he'd retire during the 2022-2023
KHL season.
It was only recently that he was found dead in his apartment, and several KHL teams would pay respect to his contributions to the KHL with a moment of silence before the competition would begin.
While he'd never manage to make his way to North America or be drafted by an
NHL team, he's put together a respectable international career, representing Russia in international play five times.
It's terrible to hear news of another untimely passing in the sport of hockey which is known for its unforgiving nature. If they can't have peace on the ice, there's hope they find it elsewhere.
We send our deepest condolences to Malykhin's family, friends, and colleagues who are mourning his loss as we speak.
