Mitch Marner reportedly heading to Western Conference team in the off-season
He would instead choose to stay in his hometown, and from there the relationship between himself and the Leafs could be broken.
As NHL Insider John Buccigross feels that Mitch Marner will sign elsewhere during the offseason, and that could be in Chicago with
Connor Bedard.
At the moment the team has $195K in cap space, even after the deadline.
The
Blackhawks have upwards of $24 million in cap space, and in July could shed more as they make more trades freeing up enough room to sign someone like Marner in free agency.
He'd slot in on the team's 1st-line and would become part of a dynamic duo with generational talent
Connor Bedard.
Now the question is, will GM Kyle Davidson be bold enough to make this move in July?
Mitch Marner has 80 points (21 goals, 59 assists) in 65 games with the Maple Leafs this season.
