The Chicago Blackhawks announced a captaincy change for last night's game against Joel Quenneville and the Anaheim Ducks.
He was hired to put the Anaheim Ducks franchise back on track, and like the Blackhawks, the Ducks made a significant step this season.
The Blackhawks had momentum in the game, and with nothing on the scoresheet until the second half of the third period, it showed when they took the lead and eventually won in overtime.
Ahead of the game, Jeff Blashill and the Hawks coaching staff did something to motivate the players, with two of the most important team leaders not available for the game.
Blackhawks Announce Captaincy Changes With Dickinson And Foligno Out Of The Lineup Against The Ducks
Prior to the game against the Ducks, the Blackhawks released an official statement on captain
Nick Foligno, saying he would step away from the team to be with his daughter for surgery:
"Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno is taking a brief leave of absence as his daughter undergoes follow-up surgery related to her congenital heart disease. Nick, nor the Blackhawks, will have any further comment at this time."
As for
Jason Dickinson, he was injured in last week's game against the Vancouver Canucks after a dangerous hit from Connor Garland:
With the captain and an alternate not on the ice, the Hawks decided to name
Alex Vlasic and
Tyler Bertuzzi as alternates for that game:
Fortunately, Foligno returned to the ice today at practice and should be available for the Blackhawks' next game on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
