Former Chicago Blackhawk officially inks deal with Toronto Maple Leafs
Tab Bamford of The Fourth Period has reported that the Toronto Maple Leafs have signed former Blackhawks forward Alex Nylander to a one-year deal with their AHL team the Toronto Marlies.
This signing was gaining traction throughout the last few weeks as many felt that the Nylander brothers would be on the same organization in the coming new year. Alex Nylander who was drafted in the 2016 entry draft, first round 8th overall hasn't had the illustrious career as his brother William has had with the Maple Leafs.
He spent one season with the Blackhawks in 2019-2020 where he played 65 games, scoring ten goals with 16 says for 26 points and was a - 2 with 10 penalty minutes. He has played with the Buffalo Sabres, Blackhawks, Penguins, and the Blue Jackets and out of all the teams he played the Blackhawks were his best result.
Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving is likely taking a chance in trying to restore his career as he only had a one year $775,000 contract with the Penguins. He will have a spot in training camp to try to upgrade his status but he will not count towards their fifty contract limit and he does not count against the salary cap as he is part of the Marlies.
