It began with restricted free agent Shane Pinto being slapped with a 41-game suspension due to potential dealings with gambling. Then the Senators lost two key defensemen to injury, one of them being Thomas Chabot, who will be sidelined for six to eight weeks due to a fractured hand, and Erik Brannstrom, who is out with a concussion after his head hit the ice during a body check by Cal Clutterbuck of the Islanders.
Now, according to NHL insider and "32 Thoughts" podcaster Elliot Friedman, the NHL is set to come down on the Senators following a trade they made with the Vegas Golden Knights involving forward Evgeny Dadanov.
It appears that the Senators were not upfront about Dadanov having submitted his trade request.
It's tough to say what punishment the Senators will face, but it's more than likely they will lose a draft pick for this year's draft. This comes at a time when the team is still adding more pieces to their group as they attempt to emerge from their rebuild phase.
