It doesn't look like Jumbo Joe will get that opportunity. While many expected Thornton to announce his retirement this summer, Thornton isn't ready to hang the skates up yet and is has accepted the head of Sports manager for the Spengler Cup once his career ends- he is actively searching for a franchise to take him in for next season.
Thornton played in 1714 NHL games and 1539 career points during his time as a Boston Bruin, San Jose Shark, Toronto Maple Leaf, and Florida Panther. Thornton has also represented Canada every opportunity he's been asked.
