On this day in NHL history, the Chicago Blackhawks and Washington Capitals combined for a trade, of which the major pieces were Ted Bulley and Dave Hutchison.

On this day in 1982, the Blackhawks and Capitals (one of the worst teams in the league at this point) combined for a trade.
The deal would see Ted Bulley and Dave Hutchison sent from the Windy City to suit up in the red, white, and blue of the Capitals.
Bulley had played the last five seasons in Chicago to start his NHL career, of which he played 349 games for the Blackhawks, and scored 196 points (92-104) as a left-winger.
Bulley was originally selected 115th overall in the 7th round of the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft by the Hawks.
Dave Hutchison originally began his career with the Los Angeles Kings on the West Coast.
His NHL career began after a short stint in the WHA with the Vancouver Blazers during the 1973-74 season.
Hutchison would make it to Chicago by way of a two-year stop in Toronto, and he'd play 163 games in the NHL and score 39 points (7-32) during his short stay here.

Neither player would deliver a Stanley Cup to their respective teams afterwards.
Hutchison would play a total of 584 games in the NHL, a spend a decade in the best hockey league in the world. While Bulley would only play 414 total, and spend 8 eight years in the NHL.
The Blackhawks would receive two draft picks in return for these depth players: a 6th-round pick in 1983 (Jari Torkki), and a 5th-round pick in 1984 (Darin Sceviour).
Torkki would only play two years in the NHL with the Blackhawks, but would find success in International play with Finland, winning a silver medal in Calgary during the 1988 Olympics.
Sceviour would only suit up for one game with the Blackhawks and would spend the rest of his career in the minors.
