According to a post on twitter, it is believed that many teams are losing purposely to offset cap restrictions, if they aren't in the Stanley Cup-pursuant tier.
Greg Wyshynski tweeted this - "You have 16 or 17 teams that want to lose. The cap has incentivized losing: 'Hey, if I'm not going to make the playoffs, I could do better by selling my cap space.»
Surely teams don't lose intentionally, but can it be argued that teams would be less against the idea if losing, if the cards don't play out properly - which will in-turn gain teams assets, and teams going into full-tank mode, in hopes for a first overall pick.
Now that the NHL media is aware, they may take action on teams purposely tanking- as it seriously affects the NHL's revenue when a team is surely sucking.
