Most astute NHL followers felt that when Barry Trotz was fired from the New York Islanders, he would be courted by numerous teams.
It would seem that the Dauphin, Manitoba native would be right at home if he gets the Jets head coaching job. His home town is just three plus hours from Winnipeg.
During his reign on Long Island he collected a 152-102-34 record and took the Islanders to the Eastern Conference Final in both 2020 and 2021.
Rumors of Trotz possibly going to Winnipeg were released by NHL insider Elliotte Friedman.
With head coaching openings in Detroit, Las Vegas, and Philadelphia, Trotz is being wooed to bring his defensive style to their team.
After former Jets head coach Paul Maurice resigned and interim coach Dave Lowry took over, it appears that Trotz has the inside position to grab the job.
The Jets will need to compete with the Flyers who also list Trotz as their favorite candidate to be behind their bench.
Trotz interviewed with the Jets on Tuesday, so we should know fairly soon if a hire is imminent.
The Jets finished a disappointing season trailing for a wild card spot by eight points. The Winnipeg club scored an average of 3.05 goals a game while relinquishing 3.09 goals.
With Trotz as their bench coach, he knows how to win and would be a valuable asset for the team going forward.
Let's see if Friedman gets this one right... he rarely misses.
