Marc-Andre Fleury's NHL career was two decades long, breaking multiple records, suited up for teams like the Chicago Blackhawks, Minnesota Wild, and Pittsburgh Penguins, and it's come to a close.
Marc-Andre Fleury was one of the best goalies in the NHL, debatably. After his three-year stint in Minnesota ended, he'd end his career sitting second in most wins among goalies in the league.
He wouldn't leave NHL ice without suiting up for one more playoff game for the Wild, as he got to play in Game 5 against his former squad, the Vegas Golden Knights.
Fleury would suit up as backup of
Filip Gustavsson, who was unable to play that night due an illness. This season was bittersweet for the 40-year-old, Quebec-born goalie was drafted in 2003.
He'd tour arenas across the league as fans, and pundits lamented the end of an era, and the Blackhawks were one of those teams that congratulated Fleury on his retirement.
Flower did play in Chicago, albeit for a short time, during the 2021-2022 NHL season he'd play a total of 45 games in the Windy City.
This was after he'd already played with the Pittsburgh Penguins where he'd win three Stanley Cups, and would later be part of the Vegas Golden Knights 2017 expansion draft.
Fleury would prove his weight in gold, helping to take the team to the Stanley Cup finals in 2018 against Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals.
He'd earn a Vezina Trophy soon after in 2021, and later would be traded to the Blackhawks for a prospect.
Fleury would be traded to the Minnesota Wild, where he's been since 2021 and before the beginning of the 2024-2025 season he'd announce his retirement.
Fleury won three Stanley Cups during hs career, accumulating 575 total wins right behind former New Jersey Devils goalie, Martin Brodeur.
