Corey Perry learns his fate in the Edmonton Oilers lineup moments before Game 4 on Thursday
Corey Perry received a surprise demotion from the Edmonton Oilers ahead of the fourth game of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers.
The former Chicago Blackhawks player Corey Perry has played a crucial role for the Edmonton Oilers in the last two playoff runs. This year, he contributed to his team's success, with 13 points, including nine goals, in 19 playoff games.
Although he managed to keep producing offensively for his team in the Finals, with three points in his last three games, the Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch decided to put him on the fourth line, replacing him with
Connor Brown on the first line.
It was also confirmed that
Stuart Skinner will be the starting goalie.
Here's the full lineup as seen at today's morning skate in Fort Lauderdale:
However, Perry will still play on the first power play unit, and as we often see at this time of the year, coach Knoblauch could decide to put him back on the first line at any time in the game if he feels it would help his team win.
Perry is the most experienced veteran on the team and will bring his usual energy whatever his lineup spot is.
The Oilers must win tonight in Florida to avoid facing elimination in front of their fans next Saturday. The team that looked determined to win in the first two games of the series was nowhere to be found in Game 3. While it seems obvious many players are dealing with injuries that affect their performances,
they mustn't let the Panthers bring their mind games to the table if they want to give themselves a chance to win.
The puck is set to drop tonight, at 8 p.m. E.T.
Make sure to stay tuned for further updates about the fourth game of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Florida Panthers and the Edmonton Oilers.
