The Chicago Blackhawks have already parted ways with several players quickly into this summer that has yet to officially kick off, but now they've signed a team MVP to a new deal.

Following a recent announcement by the Chicago Blackhawks organization, the team has signed the Rockford IceHogs' team MVP and 'The Hardest Hitter' award winner to a contract.
It's going to be quite the busy offseason ahead for the Chicago Blackhawks, and this just marks one less thing to worry about. Securing Cavan Fitzgerald to a two-year deal provides the Blackhawks' youth with protecting and star support in the AHL, while giving the NHL team a reliable option if they need to recall a player due to injury.
''The veteran blueliner began last season on a PTO with the IceHogs and quickly became one of the team's most important pieces. Fitzgerald was named Rockford's MVP and Hardest Hitter at the team's End of Year Awards in April.

A native of Boston, MA, Fitzgerald led all Hogs' defenseman with eight goals through 63 games. The 28-year-old recorded 22 points and held a +5 rating throughout the regular season while wearing an "A" for Rockford.''

Welcome back, Cavan!
