Former Columbus Blue Jackets forward Luke Kunin remains a UFA, and could be a sneaky addition to the Blackhawks' bottom six, should GM Kyle Davidson make the call?
Luke Kunin is another UFA who is still looking for his new home in the NHL as training camp marches closer.
Kunin is known as a hard-nosed player who can be versatile on the ice, playing both center and on the wing.
While it seems incomprehensible he hasn't been signed yet, the Chicago Blackhawks are one team that could be in on the former 15th overall pick.
Luke Kunin and The Chicago Blackhawks
For the Blackhawks, their forward group could use an upgrade all across the board. The bottom six was recently bolstered by
Sam Lafferty, but it lacks the punch that we see on other NHL teams nowadays.
For example, the Panthers are a team that is tough to play against, and their fourth line is just as much of an offensive threat as their third and second.
The Blackhawks need to take from the pages of Bill Zito and find a home for Kunin, who could be a placeholder for a season or two in the Windy City until prospects are ready to make the jump.
In 75 games split between the Columbus Blue Jackets and San Jose Sharks, he scored 18 points (11-7) and is now a UFA.
Last season, he made $2.75 million AAV, and the Blackhawks could find room for him under the $20 million available at the moment.
Kunin was drafted 15th overall in the 2016 NHL Draft by the Minnesota Wild.
