Trade completed: Insiders announcement would be dreadful for the Chicago Blackhawks if true
Per Blackhawks analyst Rob Couch, the Chicago Blackhawks may have made a mistake by trading Lukas Reichel yesterday to the Vancouver Canucks before he realized his potential in Chicago.
The Lukas Reichel era for the Blackhawks is over, as
they traded him yesterday to the Vancouver Canucks.
Even though Reichel didn't show much promise with the Blackhawks, it could be because they weren't utilizing him the right way or giving him the kind of proper minutes he'd need to thrive.
Per Blackhawks analyst Rob Couch, Chicago could have
made a mistake by sending him off so fast to a place where he could eventually have success.
»The Blackhawks are a young team with some veterans sprinkled in there, but they are starting to turn a corner. There are plenty more prospects to still come and there just wasn't a place for Reichel the way Chicago was utilizing him. He had to get traded before his potential turned into just another middle-aged average forward.
Whichever direction Vancouver goes in, they don't tend to stay healthy and have some solid wingers. Reichel is in a good position to succeed if they let him and could finally start to realize his potential.»
Reichel now has a chance to prove that the Blackhawks were wrong for trading him, and he'll be highly motivated to help bump up his asking price in his next contract which he's eligible for after this season.
Lukas Reichel was in the last year of his contract
Reichel can become an RFA this summer, as he's in the last year of his contract with an AAV (average annual value) of $1.2 million.
He was taken with the 17th overall pick by the Blackhawks in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, but never made too much of an impact.
His best output came last year when he had 22 points (8G, 14A) in 70 games.
