The announcement came as general manager Kyle Davidson explained to his team that he was going to keep the same leadership group intact but decided to change one letter and that was to Foligno. Rumors had been surfacing around the web over the last couple of weeks that he was going to be the choice for Davidson and head coach Luke Richardson.
The 36-year-old forward who stands at six foot 210 lbs was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in 2006, first round, 28th pick overall. Throughout his illustrious career, he had played for the Senators, Blue Jackets, Maple Leafs, Bruins and the Hawks. His vast experience is shown as he has played 1155 games, scoring 232 goals with 330 assists for 562 points with 932 penalty minutes. He also was the captain of the Blue Jackets from 2015 through 2021.
Many in the Blackhawks dressing room have complete respect and admiration for their new captain. Foligno Spoke about his promotion and feels that he is a transitional captain as he intends to hand over this role to future superstar Connor Bedard.
