The announcement came as general manager Kyle Davidson explained to his team that he was going to keep the same leadership group intact but decided to change one letter and that was to Foligno. Rumors had been surfacing around the web over the last couple of weeks that he was going to be the choice for Davidson and head coach Luke Richardson.

"In a very short amount of time, Nick has quickly earned the respect of his teammates and our staff,» Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson said in a statement.
"Nick's commanding presence in the locker room has been instrumental in helping the team find its identity. He has served as a mentor to many of our young players both on and off the ice while also heading up the leadership group comprised of our veteran players, and we are beyond confident that he will flourish in the role of captain as we usher in a new era of Blackhawks hockey."

The 36-year-old forward who stands at six foot 210 lbs was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in 2006, first round, 28th pick overall. Throughout his illustrious career, he had played for the Senators, Blue Jackets, Maple Leafs, Bruins and the Hawks. His vast experience is shown as he has played 1155 games, scoring 232 goals with 330 assists for 562 points with 932 penalty minutes. He also was the captain of the Blue Jackets from 2015 through 2021.

Many in the Blackhawks dressing room have complete respect and admiration for their new captain. Foligno Spoke about his promotion and feels that he is a transitional captain as he intends to hand over this role to future superstar Connor Bedard.

«The fact that Danny, Kyle, Luke and my teammates have all put their faith in me to lead this amazing group is extremely humbling, and I thank them all for the opportunity,» Foligno said. «I am beyond honored to serve as captain for this storied franchise and its incredible fans, especially during such a pivotal time toward the team's future.»
