The Chicago Blackhawks are in a familiar position in 2025, as they stand to get another lottery pick for the NHL Draft this year.

As it stands right now, the Blackhawks are playing some of the worst hockey we've seen lately.
Even though there are bright spots in the lineup with players like Frank Nazar, Colton Dach, and Spencer Knight the effort hasn't been great enough to turn the season around.
The team is 20-40-9 and 8th in the Central Division this season. What are their odds of getting the 1st pick in the 2025 Draft?
They're currently behind the bottom-dwelling San Jose Sharks at 13.5%, while the Sharks have the best chance at winning the 1st-overall pick again with 25.5%,
Like the Blackhawks, the Sharks themselves have failed to put together a solid effort to win any significant games this season, even with Macklin Celebrini in the lineup.
The Sharks are 18-42-9 and 8th in the Pacific if you didn't think the Hawks could do worse.
While a 1st overall lottery pick might seem insurmountable, the Hawks did it before when they won the whole show in 2023 with Connor Bedard's selection 1st overall in 2023.

It seems likely that the Blackhawks will win a pick from 2-4 in 2025 and with how deep the 2026 draft is this year, it wouldn't be a terrible thing.
But they could miss out on forward Michael Misa if they don't get the chance to pick 1st in 2025.
So, keep in mind according to the rules:
The Blackhawks won the lottery last year, so if they do it again this year, they will be ineligible to do so until 2028. Then again, if they land Celebrini after getting Connor Bedard last year, they probably won't be worrying too much about the draft lottery for a while.

If they do end up winning the lottery and drafting Michael Misa or defenseman Matthew Schaefer they won't be able to do so again until 2029.
This means they may also miss a shot at drafting Connor Bedard's cousin Gavin McKenna in 2026.
Stay tuned today to see the Blackhawks take on their rivals the St. Louis Blues at 3 PM today.
