A prominent NHL insider has revealed the next head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks, potentially poaching a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning's coaching staff.
The Chicago Blackhawks fired Luke Richardson as head coach and named Anders Sorensen as interim back in December and are still in the process of hiring a new coach.
By now, they have seen many interesting contenders for the job being hired by other teams, such as Rick Tocchet and Mike Sullivan, who could've been great people to lead the Blackhawks' young core to the next step of their development.
According to a massive declaration made by a prominent insider, the Blackhawks will hire the current Tampa Bay Lightning assistant coach Jeff Blashill.
Indeed, on X, Buccigross, who's been sharing reliable news about coaching changes in the NHL this season, believes the Blackhawks must hire Blashill:
LeBrun also stated that a decision should be announced in 7-10 days:
In his coaching career, Blashill worked three years as the Detroit Red Wings' AHL head coach before getting promoted to the NHL, where he remained in office for seven seasons. He joined the Lightning organization in 2022 after being fired, ending his days as the Red Wings' head coach with a 204-261-70 record.
While his tenure with the Red Wings wasn't easy, he spent the past three years working and learning from Jon Cooper, one of the best coaches in the business.
His experience makes him an interesting target for many teams. According to Frank Seravalli, the Seattle Kraken also expressed interest in bringing him on board, after they parted ways with Dan Bylsma at the end of the season.
Stay tuned for updates on the Blackhawks' coaching search.
