Pat Maroon delivers final message to Connor Bedard before retiring
Before Pat Maroon retires from the Chicago Blackhawks and the NHL he saw fit to give Connor Bedard some meaningful advice after the game in the Wells Fargo Arena locker room
Pat Maroon can retire happy and fulfilled, as he won three consecutive Stanley Cup championships in the NHL.
He'd start with the St. Louis Blues in 2019, where he'd help the Blues end a brutal matchup against the Boston Bruins, and come out ahead in seven games.
Pat Maroon would take his winning ways to the Tampa Bay Lightning a year later, and win two more with Jon Cooper.
It'd take him a while to arrive in Chicago, but he's found himself as a mentor and fourth-liner in the Blackhawks locker room. He continued that mentorship after the team's win against the Flyers on Sunday.
«Obviously, it's not the year we want, but we can try to build something here in the last 11 games,»
Maroon told his teammates after the game, as shown in a video posted by the Blackhawks' social media profile. «Build a culture of winning hockey, winning ways especially for you young guys. You guys have so much talent, a lot of years ahead of you to do something.»
The win against the Philadelphia Flyers was helpful for the Blackhawks as a 7-4 victory established confidence they had lost after giving up their last five games, 0-4-1.
Maroon has seen quite a bit of hockey during his 14-year career and would play in the NHL as a journeyman, and an enforcer once the 2020s rolled around.
No longer the kind of forward who could post 50 points a year, but he found a way to make himself useful for the teams who acquired him.
Putting old talents to use, he scored 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist) against the Philadelphia Flyers and Head Coach John Tortorella.
Now, with the end of his legacy near, he continues to motivate the Blackhawks and give players like Connor Bedard, and
Frank Nazar a picture of the future they should aim for.
Considering he's won it all three times, Maroon would know best.
