Nick Foligno provides powerful update on his daughter's health amidst absence from the Blackhawks
Chicago Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno has provided an encouraging update on the health of his daughter not long after he took a leave of absence from the team.
Chicago Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno recently took a
leave of absence from the team to deal with a personal situation.
The situation was revealed to be that his daughter, who has a congenital heart condition, needed to undergo heart surgery, which thankfully proved to be successful.
Foligno was back at practice with the Blackhawks on Monday after having missed the last 3 games, and
he said he was thankful for the support that he's gotten while dealing with a very difficult situation.
"I think we found a lot of comfort in the support of the hockey community and the fans, old teammates and my second family here. It's amazing when you go through a hard time how everyone bands together to send you a ton of support and love and prayers, and it was felt by our family.
We were able to get her seen quickly and ahead of what could have been probably a lot worse."
Nick Foligno is in his 3rd year with the Blackhawks
Foligno is playing in his 3rd year with the Blackhawks and is in his 2nd year since being named the 35th captain in team history.
Head coach Jeff Blashill, who is in his 1st year behind the Chicago bench, said that the team needs Foligno's leadership and that it pays dividends for the players.
"He's our leader, so you want that presence in your locker room. I think he brings good energy, so I think it was great to have him back. Great that, considering the situation, everything went really good."
So far this year, Foligno has 2 assists. He's also in the final year of his contract with an AAV (average annual value) of $4,500,000.
