NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun Reveals 5 Teams Are in Talks with Mike Sullivan

The Pittsburgh Penguins are now without a head coach, as they parted ways with Mike Sullivan after just under 10 years on the job.

He was one of the longest tenured coaches in the NHL, having been hired in December of 2015 and subsequently leading them to consecutive Stanley Cup wins. He also kept the Penguins in playoff contention for the next several years, but failed to lead them to a postseason spot in each of the last 3 years.

But just because the Penguins had fallen on hard times of late under Sullivan doesn't mean that there aren't going to be multiple teams interested in hiring him to lead their respective club.

Per top NHL analyst Pierre LeBrun, at least 5 different clubs have reached out to Sullivan.

Among the teams that are looking for a new head coach include the Vancouver Canucks following Rick Tocchet's skipping town earlier today.

Another team is the Boston Bruins, who played most of the year under interim (and former assistant) coach Joe Sacco and missed the postseason.

The Chicago Blackhawks could potentially be one of the 5 teams that LeBrun is referring to; Sullivan already has ties to Chicago, having been part of the team staff on the 2015 Stanley Cup-winning squad.

They fired coach Luke Richardson in early December and promoted Anders Sorenson from the American Hockey League to take over on an interim basis; Chicago was reportedly targeting University of Denver coach David Carle, but he took his name out of the running.

Either way, it looks like Sullivan won't be unemployed for long.
