The 2025 NHL Draft Lottery date has been announced on May 5th, and it could change everything for Kyle Davidson and the Chicago Blackhawks, who won the lottery in 2023, selecting Connor Bedard 1st overall.

The Chicago Blackhawks have benefited from winning the NHL Draft lottery in 2023. It gave them their franchise centerman, Connor Bedard, who has had two consecutive 60+ point seasons.
He'd win the Calder Trophy race during his rookie season in 2023-2024, despite missing a significant number of games during that period.
Now, the NHL has announced the date for the 2025 Draft, and it'll be held on May 5th. The draft will follow in late June after the Stanley Cup has concluded.
The last time this happened, the Blackhawks could end up selecting either defenseman Matthew Schaefer, who plays for the Erie Otters of the OHL.
He's been compared to Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman and Norris Trophy candidate Zach Werenski.
"He is the best available prospect at his position and the results he achieves with his combination of speed, skills and size give him the edge for the No. 1 spot," NHL Central Scouring director Dan Marr said. "While his game is still maturing, he's playing a style that will transition well once he gets his NHL opportunity.

Or Michael Misa, a center who plays for the Saginaw Spirit, in the OHL. Misa has finished his 2024-2025 season in the OHL scoring, a total of 134 points (62 goals, 72 assists) in 65 games.
A total that reminds us of someone else drafted 1st overall in 2023.
The lottery will set the order of the 16 NHL teams who failed to make the Stanley Cup playoffs this season.
The draft itself will take place at L.A. Live's Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, hosted by the Los Angeles Kings this year.
The 2025 Draft will be sponsored by Upper Deck.
The odd remain in the Blackhawks' favor, who finished 25-46-11, and 8th in the Central Division with 13.5%.
That is just below the San Jose Sharks, who finished with a record of 20-50-12, at 18.5%.
