Chicago Blackhawks suddenly have new head coaching candidate at the top of their list
The Chicago Blackhawks suddenly have a prime head coaching candidate who will likely be at the top of their list after they missed out on hiring David Carle.
Add the Vancouver Canucks to the list of teams that are without a head coach for the time being; now-ex coach Rick Tocchet announced that he was departing the organization that he'd led since January of 2023.
This will present a prime opportunity for the Chicago Blackhawks, who were told by their favored candidate, David Carle of the University of Denver, that he was not interested in taking the job.
The Blackhawks, who fired coach Luke Richardson after a bad start to the year and replaced him with AHL coach Anders Sorenson, would be wise to put Tocchet at the top of their list of new candidates.
The Blackhawks need someone behind the bench who can help to establish a culture and Tocchet brings the ability to do just that.
This past season saw Tocchet serve as an assistant on Team Canada at the Four Nations Tournament as well which proves his status around the NHL as a respected coach. His experience is valuable to a team that has so little of it and would be a presence that could be very beneficial toward developing these players into established NHL'ers.
The Blackhawks could also be considering names like Peter Laviolette, Drew Bannister, Derek Lalonde, and Greg Cronin, all of whom were let go at some point this year by their respective clubs.
