Chicago Blackhawks Name New Captains Minutes After Seth Jones Trade

Ahead of the Chicago Blackhawks game tonight against the Anaheim Ducks GM Kyle Davidson has found his new Captains.

Instead of giving a player like Alex Vlasic the "A" he's opted for older players in the lineup, as your new Blackhawks Captains are as follows:

Given that the Jones trade happened so suddenly, we weren't sure when the new leadership group would be named.

But thanks to NHL Insider Ben Pope we know.

it is an odd set of circumstances that all three have the last name of M, and all three are veterans.

A sign that he's not confident enough to hand off the leadership in the locker room and on the ice to the upcoming youth movement in Chicago.

Instead, Pat Maroon will get to show off his leadership skills which have given players like Lukas Reichel a chance to thrive in Chicago during the middle part of the NHL season.

This season with the Blackhawks he's played 53 games and scored 13 points (3 G, 10 A) as a depth forward.

Alec Martinez is a choice and doesn't seem to be as passionate about the game, as Seth Jones ever did in Chicago.

Martinez has suffered a dip in production due to battling recent injuries and has only appeared in 32 games this season with the Hawks, scoring 9 points (4 G, 5 A) with a -4.

He's already won his hardware like Maroon, and in my opinion, has seemingly checked out of the Blackhawks lineup.

And Connor Murphy is the only lifer here and seems dedicated to bringing his best play to the Blackhawks every night.

He's played 46 games for the Blackhawks, and scored 16 points (1 G, 15 A).

It's an interesting group to make up for the absence for Seth Jones.
