Chicago Blackhawks look to acquire 23-year-old Toronto Maple Leafs forward: Per report
The Chicago Blackhawks could be looking to acquire a 23-year-old Toronto Maple Leafs forward, according to a recent report.
For the second offseason in a row, Nick Robertson found himself looking for a new contract.
Drafted 53rd overall in 2019, Robertson has struggled to find consistency at the NHL level with the Leafs.
He has played in 156 career games but spent significant time shuttling between Toronto and the Marlies in the AHL. Last season was his best yet, scoring 15 goals in 69 games.
Despite those improvements, Robertson still projects as a bottom-six forward in Toronto, with limited opportunities to climb higher in the lineup.
Chicago Blackhawks emerge as potential fit for Robertson
Robertson could provide immediate secondary scoring, slotting into Chicago's middle six while taking pressure off Bedard.
The Detroit Red Wings remain a logical option as well.
General manager Steve Yzerman is under pressure to push Detroit back into the postseason, and Robertson's scoring touch could strengthen their middle lines behind veterans like
Patrick Kane.
Pittsburgh is another team frequently mentioned.
With Kyle Dubas now running the Penguins, his familiarity with Robertson from their Toronto days could play a role. The Penguins have cap space and a need for youthful offensive energy, giving Robertson a chance to compete for top-six minutes.
If Robertson can't earn a full-time spot in Toronto, a trade before or during the season may finally materialize.
