Chicago Blackhawks head coach accepts coaching opportunity with Team USA hockey
Chicago Blackhawks coach Jeff Blashill joined a number of other coaches for a symposium on International Hockey in Columbus, OH, featuring Derek Lalonde and John Tortorella.
Chicago Blackhawks Head Coach Jeff Blashill will arrive in the Windy City with a clean slate.
Blashill has plenty enough experience in international play as a coach, that him to lead Team USA in the 2009, 2017 & 2022 IIHF World Junior Championships.
He would expand upon those winning philosophies at the 2025 USA Hockey Long Drink Level 5 Coaching Symposium in Columbus, OH.
Blashill joined former Red Wings Head Coach Derek Lalonde, Columbus Blue Jackets GM Don Waddell, former Flyers Head Coach John Tortorella, Rangers Head Coach Mike Sullivan, and Penguins Coach Dan Muse in order to grow their wealth of knowledge surrounding the sport of hockey.
Blashill originally started his coaching career in the USHL with the Indiana Ice, and would leverage his Clark Cup championship into a gig with the Western Michigan University Broncos.
He'd eventually find his way to join the Detroit Red Wings coaching staff in 2011-12 under Mike Babcock. He'd shift down to Coach the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins in 2012, and would find a home in the NHL until 2015.
Now, he continues to grow the wealth of knowledge across the coaching core of USA Hockey as he helps the organization grow its base, and help others attain their Level 5 certification.
That is the highest level a coach in USA Hockey can attain.
