Chicago Blackhawks legend Bobby Hull's Foundation comes to saddened halt after his passing
Two years after Bobby Hull's death at 84 years old, the Bobby Hull Foundation for Children has officially closed its doors.
The Canada Revenue Agency recently listed the Foundation in a legal notice among 141 charities whose registrations have been formally revoked.
Based in Winnipeg, the Bobby Hull Foundation spent nearly three decades raising tens of thousands of dollars each year to support sick children. Its efforts were deeply meaningful across Manitoba, helping children's hospitals and families dealing with illness.
Patrick McCullough, co-founder and long-time director, recalled Bobby Hull's impact off the ice in an official statement:
"Bobby was on the board and active until he died. We did our last event this year."
"If we were driving and came across kids playing road hockey, Bobby would stop the car. He would ask if they wanted him to autograph their sticks."
"We'd go to Rae & Jerry's steak house and every time the waitress would say, 'There are some people here who would like to meet Bobby.' He always made time."
With the foundation now closed, a huge piece of Hull's legacy fades away, but the memories of his generosity, reaching far past the ice, live on. Thanks to the countless lives he touched and everything he achieved in the game, Bobby Hull's name won't be forgotten anytime soon.
Between 1957 and 1980, Hull scored 610 goals and 560 assists in 1,063 regular-season games, primarily with the Chicago Blackhawks.
He won two Hart Trophies and led the NHL in goals seven times, helping Chicago win the Stanley Cup in 1961. Hull made history in 1972 by signing a $2.75 million deal with the Winnipeg Jets, paving the way for modern player salaries and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983.
