Chicago Blackhawks fans will need to pump their breaks on offseason expectations
A new report stated that Chicago Blackhawks fans could need to pump their brakes on their expectations as we enter the offseason.
Many changes are expected to go down in Chicago during the offseason. After having watched all the young prospects ending the 2024-25 season on a high note in the NHL, General Manager Kyle Davidson could be changing his plans.
Indeed, after rumors stated the Hawks could be going after a key player in free agency this summer, such as
Mitch Marner, a new report from Frank Seravalli shed light on another possibility.
Seravalli stated that the Hawks won't make a splash in free agency this summer, but are expected to be very active on the trade market, with the 3rd overall pick likely in play:
"Frank Seravalli on if Chicago will make a big splash this summer.
«Free agency, no. I don't think they're going to be out spending crazy money
I do think they want to be really active on the trade market & I do think the #3 overall pick is in play.»"
Drafting another young player to build around in the future could be a smart move for the Hawks. If the team isn't expecting to end the next few seasons at the bottom of the rankings, drafting a final top-three player to complete their young core could be interesting.
However, trading it could bring back a significant return, which could likely help the team win sooner than if they draft a player.
In my opinion, a team like the Buffalo Sabres could be interested in acquiring the pick. The Sabres could use a top-three pick, and many rumors state that J.J. Peterka could leave the team, which would be a massive deal between Chicago and Buffalo.
With
Jason Robertson also included in rumors, his name shouldn't be dismissed just yet.
