Cancelation involving the Blackhawks has been announced after disastrous weather statement in Chicago
The Avalanche may be heading back to Colorado with an extra-two points following a
3-2 shootout win against the Blackhawks on Wednesday night, but a concerning weather report may just delay their airport departure.
On Wednesday, a high-intensity tornado made its way through the city of Chicago, blowing through barns and even power lines which are now causing damage on the streets.
This has now caused a significant issue for the NHL's Avalanche, who have a
game to make in Columbus at 7:30 p.m tonight.
According to Columbus Blue Jackets team reporter Aaron Portzline of The Athletic, the Avalanche's scheduled plane ride to leave Chicago was canceled, and it could cancel tonight's game as a whole.
As Portzline notes, the game is still currently on schedule despite the weather warnings.
The Avalanche face a significant disadvantage with their flight cancelation, causing their hotel check in to be delayed hours, meaning less sleep for their entire lineup ahead of facing a hungry, playoff-hunting Columbus Blue Jackets.
If the team is not able to depart to Columbus anytime soon, the Avalanche may be forced to forfeit two points. As the NHL playoffs begin in 16 days, there is not much time for a makeup game to take place.
