Bloodcurdling scene involving Chicago Blackhawks defenseman after dirty hit from Blues' Jake Neighbours
The St. Louis Blues and
Chicago Blackhawks are rivals that date back to the 1960s when the Blues were the new kid on the scene.
Today could see the rivalry inflamed once more after the Blackhawks lost to them during the 2025 Winter Classic.
Now adding to the list, injuring fellow Blackhawks players like Alec Martinez.
The "play" happened in the Blackhawks' zone, when forward Jake Neighbours trailed defenseman Alex Martinez and pushed him into the boards.
The hit was brutal, as you can see his head bounce off the boards, and
Neighbours wouldn't hold back as he would lean into it with his arm.
Martinez's injury remains undisclosed as the team wouldn't release any information on the defenseman's status.
The hit itself happened early in the first period of Saturday's match against the St. Louis Blues in the Enterprise Center.
Martinez would only log 4:55 time on ice before leaving the game for good.
In a season plagued by injuries, the veteran defenseman can't seem to find a way to establish himself in the lineup when he consistently gets injured.
An unfortunate incident by any means, the
Chicago Blackhawks could be without Martinez during Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Flyers and Head Coach John Tortorella.
Jake Neighbours wouldn't be penalized for the hit, but he would be after fighting with Blackhawks veteran
Jason Dickinson. Unironically the zebras are getting worse as they gave Dickinson an instigator penalty for policing the ice where they failed.
The Blackhawks are 20-41-9 and 8th in the Central Division and have a 13.5% chance of winning the 2025 NHL draft lottery.
