Patrick Kane has been out of the Detroit Red Wings lineup since October 17th, and with the latest media scrum today, there's some promise for the veteran NHL forward.
The Detroit Red Wings were on home ice today for practice, and with positive news to report, Patrick Kane joined the entire time.
The forward hasn't received the all-clear to go play full-contact hockey just yet but was asked after practice how healthy he was.
It sounds as if he was biding his time while still in recovery mode. But overall, his health was better since the injury that aggravated his shoulder (upper-body injury) as a result of him colliding with the boards against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
"We'll see," said Kane after Thursday's practice about his availability. "I'm feeling pretty good. It was nice to get back into practice with the team today. Other than that, I feel pretty good and we'll go from there.
"We'll see how it is (Friday). I don't think there's any real decision on when I'm back or anything like that."
Detroit Red Wings are Missing 59-point forward Patrick Kane in the lineup
Patrick Kane is a key piece in the team's lineup. He not only fulfilled the 2nd-line RW role for the Red Wings, but he was also a piece on the team's 1st-power-play unit.
A spot occupied right now by forward Emmitt Finnie. Since there's no true return date for Kane, it looks like, for now, he'll continue to skate during practices until he gets the all-clear.
"I was pretty confident I was going to be able to get through a practice and skate with the team," Kane said. "But you never know until you get into it, so I'm happy I was able to do that and participate and go the whole way.
It's only a matter of time before the team gets its point-per-game player back in the lineup.
Before his injury, he scored 5 points (2-3) in 5 games for the Red Wings. We should expect him to give the team another goal-scoring option once he returns.
