Blackhawks Forced To Complete Emergency Roster Move Following Loss Of Valuable Forward
During a game on Wednesday, with 15 minutes left in the second period, the Blackhawks and Oilers were still at 0-0, and Chicago ultimately already took the loss when Jason Dickinson got hurt.
The 29-year old forward was trying to get a loose puck when he got hit and fell awkwardly, hurting his leg.
He couldn't put much weight on it and had to leave the game.
Anders Sorensen, said it looked pretty bad, and Dickinson left the arena in a walking boot, causing fear amongst Blackhawks fans.
The next day, everyone was worried he might miss the rest of the season.
But the news came back better than expected. Dickinson has a high ankle sprain; no breaks and his knee was okay.
He'll need more tests on Friday.
High ankle sprains are tricky and it might take him until March to play again.
When Jason Dickinson will return from injury
Luckily, the Blackhawks don't have a game for two weeks after Saturday, so the timing could have been worse. Dickinson will still be missing over a month of play, and is expected to return in March.
Dickinson is really important to the Blackhawks. Even though he hasn't scored as much as last season on paper, he's their best defensive forward and stats prove it.
The Blackhawks will have to bring up someone from their minor league team to fill in while he's out, in an emergency roster move.
They've got a couple of games left before their break, and they might send down some younger players like
Landon Slaggert and
Ethan Del Mastro to the AHL to get more practice.
With the circumstances, an emergency call-up is needing to be made, and Blackhawks fans can expect the arrival from Colton Dach, or another promising prospect from the Rockford IceHogs.
